MSP Announces Teacher of the Year

Middle School of Poplarville – Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Ms. Liska Wallace for being selected by her peers to represent MSP as the 2020 Teacher of the Year. Ms. Liska, as she is known by her students, has 17 years of teaching experience and is currently teaching sixth-grade math and science. She has received a BS degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and an MS degree in Educational Leadership from William Carey University.

Ms. Liska has held many leadership positions throughout her career including math department chairperson and lead math teacher. She has served on various committees including TAC (Teacher Advisory Council) Team, TEA (Teachers Emerging as Administrators) Team, and PSD’s Emergency Council. Ms. Liska, a National Board Certified Teacher, believes challenges are not failures, just a way to discover new opportunities.

Ms. Liska’s classroom hums with students collaborating on challenging real-world scenarios. To instill ownership of learning and to challenge them to perform at the next level, she has taught them to lead math discussions and to challenge their peers in mathematical and scientific debates. There is no wondering why Ms. Liska was selected as 2020 Teacher of the Year for MSP!
