In the last few weeks Art 2 students Janelle Johnson, Taylor McClendon, and Ava Guerra studied and completed a drawing lesson of a Bargue Plate as part a French 19th century drawing course created by Jean-Léon Gérôme and Charles Bargue. This lesson has been used for centuries to teach classical realism and increases learning new techniques for identifying and correcting drawing errors while practicing hand-eye coordination.
The lesson plan came from The Da Vinci Initiative which offers Atlier training for contemporary classrooms. Mrs. Clark, Poplarville’s High School art teacher, attended a formal training workshop in this process at the Mississippi Art Education 2017 Fall conference. In guiding her students through the same drawing techniques of classically trained masters, each student shines in portraying their talents and skill in the area of classical realism.
