Four Students from Poplarville High School won state titles at this year’s Mississippi High School Rodeo Association’s State Finals. The MSHSRA is open to all high school students in the state of Mississippi. Students competed against 160 other students in 16 qualifying rodeos throughout the previous school year.
The Finals were held in Hattiesburg, MS throughout the first week of June and consisted of two rounds and a championship round. Each rodeo and round contestants earn points. The top ten point earners for the year qualify for the championship round where they can also earn points and highest point earner for the year wins the state title.
The winner of each event receives a saddle, a buckle, and an invitation to the High School National Finals Rodeo in Wyoming.
The four students from Poplarville High included:
Mckinsy Harris– Barrel Racing
Brandon McBride – Steer Wrestling
Chase Graves – Team Roping and Rookie All Around Cowboy
Clay Brown – Saddle Bronc
Chase Graves also won 2nd in the National Team Roping Finals in Wyoming against the top 4 competitors in each state. Earning him a National Reserve Champion title in Team Roping.
