8th Grade Novel Activities

escapeEighth grade ELA classes at MSP recently finished reading the novel The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton, and to complete the unit Ms. Allred and Ms. Jenn tried some new activities. One was an Escape Room featuring figurative language and character development where students had to work together to uncover a secret message, both standards students analyzed throughout the novel. They also made “One Pagers” that focused on theme and plot, along with symbolism and character growth. As a culminating activity the entire eighth grade met in the cafeteria to watch The Outsiders movie while being served popcorn and soda.
