On Saturday, April 25, the PHS Student Council attended the Mississippi State Association of Student Councils Conference at St. Patrick High School in Biloxi for the first time in school history. They had the opportunity to hear two world-renowned speakers on student leadership, Phil Gugliuzza and De’Marco Formby. During the conference the students also networked with peers from around the state in roundtable discussions on topics dealing with student council and participated in a service project for the Gulf Coast Humane Society. Members also enjoyed getting to compete in different competitions. Tatum Davis represented the Student Council in the speech competition on the topic, “Hitting a Homerun with Leadership” and did an outstanding job! Richard Patton and Paige Lee gave a campaign speech that got Poplarville High School elected as the State Student Council Secretary. Kayla Hughes was awarded Honorable Mention for Most Outstanding Student Council Member, and Dylan Dunaway was awarded Honorable Mention for Most Outstanding Student Council President. The students came away with lots of valuable ideas and contacts that they hope to utilize next year. They are excited about attending next year’s State Conference in Oxford and possibly attending the Southern Regional Conference in Orlando.
