The Hornets needed to win last Friday nights game by 10 or more points to ensure the 3rd seed in the playoffs. They did just that, beating Columbia 31-21. The Hornets managed to keep an explosive Columbia offense in check most of the evening, holding them to just 206 total yards on the night. The Wildcats had to deal with an angry Hornet defensive line that applied relentless pressure to the quarterback. The Hornet offense tallied over 300 yards of total offense and found the end zone three times on the ground. The other TD came on the opening kickoff when Tyler Fricke returned the ball 75 yards. This sparked an explosive 3rd quarter, where the Hornets scored 17 unanswered points. Nick Kirshbaum was perfect on the night going 4/4 on PATs and 1/1 on field goals. The Hornets have now made the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year. We will be traveling to McComb to face the #2 seed from Region 6. An official MHSAA playoff bracket can be found at misshsaa.com.
