The Career Development Center faculty and staff hosted the very first Freshman/Parent Orientation Monday, July 27. Brochures outlining the Career & Technical programs offered at the Career Development Center along with an invitation to attend the event were mailed to the parents of all 2015-2016 PHS Freshman.
Students were given a copy of their schedules and a packet containing pertinent information specific to the high school, such as pick up and drop off instructions, tutoring break details, attendance and exemption policies, graduation and scholarship information, dual enrollment opportunities, a lunch menu, and a list of free educational websites to assist in the learning process.
During the first half of the Orientation, Dr. Marlene Cole, Director of Career & Technical Education, spoke to the 69 students and their parents in the general assembly. The second half consisted of an in-depth tour of the campus for the 9th grade students while the parents were toured through each of the five Career and Technical programs. In the past, students were always given a tour of the programs, but this year we wanted to educate the parents on the opportunities available to their child through the Career Development Center.
A special thanks to the Recruitment Department at PRCC for the donation of door prizes, the entire CDC faculty and staff, members of the PSD PTO, the PHS principal and guidance counselor, and all those in attendance. Due to the positive feedback, the Orientation will become an annual event.
