The Poplarville High School Class of 2018 toured Pearl River Community College on Friday, September 22nd. Seniors gathered in the Marvin R. White Coliseum to hear from admissions recruiter Leah Balli and some of the River Navigators. Students then split into groups where they toured campus, visited with professors, got to see dorm rooms, a health science lab, workout facilities and classrooms. Students toured the Honors College and learned about a variety of scholarships available at Pearl River.
Specifically, students learned about the changes made in the career technical scholarship program. Students who complete a vocational program in high school with an overall 3.5 grade point average can qualify for a full tuition scholarship at PRCC. If students complete a vocational program in high school with a 3.0-3.49 grade point average, they can receive a half tuition scholarship. Students receiving a career and technical scholarship do not have to participate in a vocational program at PRCC to receive the scholarship. Seniors concluded their tour of PRCC with a pizza party and free throw scholarship competition. Selected students competed to see who could make the most free throws in 2 minutes for a PRCC scholarship. Congratulations to DJ Travis for winning the competition and a $250 scholarship! Go Wildcats!
