Athletic Update 3/8-13/21

Archery

Congratulations to our PHS archery team as they are on a winning streak. Last week they defeated Hancock on Tuesday and the top male shooter was Raymond Davis and the top female shooter was Breanna Davis. They also gained a victory over Stone on Thursday, top male shooter was Raymond Davis and top female shooter was Sarah Bolin. Moving on to this week, they will compete here at home against D’Iberville on Tuesday, March 9th at 5:00pm. Good luck to our PHS archery team!

Softball

Congratulations to the PHS girls softball team as they won two games over the weekend. They defeated St. Patrick with a final score of 6-3 and won against D’Iberville with a score of 6-2. This week they will play at Picayune on Tuesday, March 9th. They will then play Picayune again here at home on Thursday, March 11th. Varsity begins at 6:30pm. Good luck to our PHS softball team!

Rodeo

Last week on 3/5/21 our PHS rodeo members competed at the Poplarville rodeo fair grounds. Placings for Poplarville rodeo members were given as follows: Gavin Lee came in first place in BareBack Riding, Gentry Wilson came in fifth place in Barrel Racing, Payton Barber came in twenty-fifth place in Barrel Racing, Laken Anderson came in twentieth place in Breakaway Roping, Laken also came in first place in Goat tying,and Pole Bending,  Gentry Wilson came in seventh place in Goat Tying, Payton Barber came in ninth place in Pole Bending, Gavin Lee rained in at third place in Steer Wrestling, he also came in seventh place in Team Roping, Mason Theriot came in eighteenth place in Team Roping, Gentry Wilson came in at twenty-fifth place in Team Roping, Laken Anderson came in at twenty-eighth place in Team Roping, Zane Pittman came in thirty-third place in Team Roping, Vance Culpepper came in forty-second place in Team Roping, Mason Theriot rained in at second place for Tie Down Roping, and lastly Gavin Lee came in at ninth place in Tie Down Roping. Congratulations to all of PHS’s Rodeo members. The rodeo will take place again in Poplarville on 3/19/21, Good Luck to everyone.

Baseball

There were a couple of games varsity baseball played last week, from March 3rd-6th. On the 3rd of March, PHS fought hard against St. Patrick as a result, the hornets lost with the score of 3-5. March 4th. Picayune and Poplarville clashed heads and won a home game with a score of 2-0. On the 5th day of March, the Poplarville baseball team played against McComb, both fought well and hard, and the Hornets claimed their victory with the score of 8-1. The last game of the previous week, 6th of March, Poplarville played against Pope John Paul II in a tournament game, PHS scored another win this week 2-1.

There are three upcoming games this week. The Poplarville Hornets baseball team will face Biloxi on the 8th, go head-to-head against Stone on the 12th, and play against  Oak Grove on the 13th. Best of luck to the Hornet’s baseball team.
