2016-2017 BETA Induction Ceremony

On Tuesday, November 15th, 2016, Poplarville High School’s Beta Club chapter hosted its annual induction and senior pinning ceremony. It began with a word of prayer from principal Jonathan Will and the pledge of allegiance, followed by an introduction by Kayla Hughes and academic sponsor Dr. Miguel Ramirez. This year’s officers were then sworn in: Kayla Hughes, president; Madlin Reed, senior vice president; Zachary Couvillon, junior vice president; Kolby Havard, secretary; Destiny Jordan, treasurer; and Eadie Keenan, historian.

Once the officers were sworn in, the candle-lighting ceremony began. The officers spoke of the principles of achievement, character, leadership, and service before new members were announced. There were 40 new members total, comprised of 8 seniors, 6 juniors, and 28 sophomores. Senior members were also presented with their Beta pins by Mr. Will and Dr. Ramirez. Each student recognized was given a candle, and the candles were lit in succession to represent the passing of knowledge from one student to another.

The chapter was also pleased to announce that they have received the National Beta School of Distinction award for the 3rd consecutive year, due to the growing membership, quality of character, and community service efforts of the group. With 92 students of exemplary academic stature, the Poplarville High School Beta Club has no limit to the benefits it can provide to the school and community.
