Poplarville High School STAR Student and STAR Teacher for the Class of 2022

 PHS senior Gabriel Vaughan was named STAR student for his 31 on the ACT. Gabrel selected Mr. Todd Smith as his STAR Teacher recognizing him as the teacher who most impacted his high school career.

Gabriel plans to attend William Carey University where he will major in Biology/Pre-Med. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and serves as NTHS reporter.  He is also a member of HOSA.  He holds a 4.17 grade point average and is currently ranked 2nd in his class.

Todd Smith teaches Health Sciences at Poplarville High School.  Mr. Smith began teaching in 2012 after practicing as a Registered Nurse for 18 years.  He is currently in his 4th year at the Poplarville Career Development Center.  He is a 1990 graduate of Poplarville High School.  He holds an associate degree in nursing from Pearl River Community College.  He serves as the school’s HOSA-Future Health Professionals advisor.  

The Star Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program recognizes high school seniors in Mississippi who earn the highest ACT score in their school. The STAR student then selects his STAR teacher.
