PSD Students Represent in Black History Competition

Members of the New Welcome Baptist Church of Poplarville, who are also students of Poplarville High School and the Middle School of Poplarville, participated in a Black History competition to commemorate Black History month. The Theta Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presented its 27th Annual Black History Bowl at the Hattiesburg Public Library. These students competed against 4 other teams who represented; Oak Grove, Petal, Hattiesburg, Columbia and Brooklyn Schools. The team took home the second place trophy in their first ever competition. Miss Jada Travis was named MVP of the competition for answering the most questions correctly on an individual basis. There were 55 other students from the Hattiesburg area participating in the competition. Not only did the students represent their church they also represented the Poplarville School district well in this annual competition. When asked Jada stated that she learned most of this information from her high school history classes. This is a great testament to the type of information being presented to students at PHS.

PHS Students: Jada Travis, Kahlid Moore, Jamaya Harry.
MSP students: Jomyla McLeod & William Harry.
Sponsors: Dr. Marcus Houston & Mrs. Lisa Napier
