Hornets Sting Greene County 60-13

The Poplarville Hornet Football team may have been the smaller team Friday, but they proved the old saying “dynamite comes in small packages” to be be true at the Region 7-4A opener.  The Hornet Offense exploded for 637 total yards and 60 points in a game that saw them rush for 564 yards on 44 carries which is the highest total since the Hornets rushed for 707 yards in 2012 against St. Stanislaus.  Many backs got involved in the offense, but none had quite the night Austin Bolton had.  Austin carried the ball 12 times for 247 yards and 3 TDs.  Senior Fullback Jesse Pernell finished with 128 yards on 13 carries and 2 TDs.  Tyson Holston contributed with 99 total yards and a TD of his own.  Chris Fowler also scored 3 rushing TDs while carrying the ball only 5 times.  Sophomore QB Antonio Barnes was nearly perfect completing 5 of 7 passes for 73 yards.  The Hornet Defense was led by seniors Jamerrick Waller, Chad Hart, Camden Ray, Turan Smith and Brandon Bullock.  The Hornet D suffocated the Greene County QB on many pass attempts and the Defensive Secondary did a great job in coverage all night.  The Hornets are now 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in District and will host Forrest County Friday Night at Hornet Field.
