Students in Ms. Kathleen’s first grade class at PLE researched how Christmas is celebrated around the world and presented their findings to their class. We learned about the Yule Lads in Iceland (they have 13 Santas!) and how families in Poland leave a carp in their tubs for three days before cooking it! Mexico and Columbia call Santa Claus Papa Noel and Christmas is Navidad. In Japan, what we think of as Christmas occurs on New Years Day, but Christmas itself is still December 25th. The students were amazed at how different Christmas can be around the world and did a great job speaking about their research!
