Allison Lee has been a high school science teacher for almost 24 years. She is currently in her 12th consecutive year as a chemistry and physics teacher at Poplarville High School from which she is a 1991 graduate. Ms. Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in biology education from Mississippi State University, and master’s degrees in both chemistry and physics education from Western Governor’s University. She serves as the student council and National Honor Society advisor at the school, as well as organizing homecoming, elections, and teacher appreciation each year. Her philosophy of education is to not only make science classes as hands-on and accessible as possible but to grow leaders in the process. She believes students should always leave you with more than just knowledge of the subject area you teach.
Allison is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poplarville. During football season, you can find her on Friday nights cheering on the Hornets. She is also active in many community service projects with her student council members. Ms. Lee is a two-time STAR teacher recipient. She is also a two-time winner of the Advisor of the Year from the Mississippi State Association of Student Councils, on which she is currently serving on the executive board.
Allison has had several regional and state science fair winners, as well as an alternate winner to the International Science and Engineering Fair. The student council last year, under her leadership, had the winning student delivered speech, senior scholarship recipient, and is currently serving in the capacity of state president of the MSASC. Her biggest accomplishment by far has been the numerous students she has mentored in pursuing and succeeding in various chemistry and chemistry-related fields in college.
