PHS Soccer Weeks 9 through 11

The PHS Varsity Girls’ Soccer team faced two losses in the first week of January. On January 8, the girls played their hardest against Sumrall at home but finished with a score of 1-0. Next on January 11, the girls played against Vancleave, also at home, and ended the game with the score of 3-1. In the second week of January the Lady Hornets played two games. On January 15, the Lady Hornets traveled to East Central High School and left with a loss of 2- 0. That didn’t put them down, as on January 18 in Hornet Nation, the girls played against Green County with a winning score of 2-0. They continued on to win against PRC (2-0) on January 22, against Columbia (7-0) on January 24, and against Magee (3-0) on January 25. After many hard-fought battles, the Lady Hornets came in second place in the district. The first playoff game was a battle between Poplarville and Sumrall with the Lady Hornets coming out of it with a victory of 2-1. The next playoff game sees the Lady Hornets fighting this Saturday, February 2, against Bay High. Come out and support our team!

The Hornets soccer team came from two games in the first week of January with two wins. In their first game against Sumrall, they won with a 3-1 score. Their next game on January 11 against Vancleave was also a win with a score of 2-0. There were some close calls, and good saves in both games. On January 15, the Poplarville boys lost against East Central to score of 3-2. January 18th was the big night for the boys team as the district championship hung on the line. Despite a loss to Greene County 3-2, the boys won a historic district championship for the first time in its history. They continued to ride this wave of victory over PRC (2-0 on January 22), Columbia (10-0 on January 24), and Magee (4-1 on January 25). In their first playoff game against Lawrence County, the boys emerged victorious with a score of 5-0. The next playoff game brings the Hornets up against Richland this Saturday, February 2. Be sure to come out and cheer them on!
