The Poplarville High School Rodeo team attended the first rodeo of the 2016-2017 season, hosted by Hancock High School in Kiln, MS on September 23rd and September 24th. The team was impressive, winning first place and top spots in most categories. The freshmen members, referred to as “Rookies”, had outstanding rankings at their first high school rodeo. Congratulations to all members of the PHS Rodeo team.
Rookies, Bryce Graves and Kason Davis, won 1st place in the team roping category in their debut high school rodeo. Ross Barnett, with his partner, came in 5th place in the same category.
Junior Holli Ard and Rookie Victoria Ladner, placed 4th and 5th respectively in Barrel Racing.
Rookie Brooke Ladner placed 2nd in Breakaway Roping.
Calf Roping brought a 2nd place winner ( Senior Chase Graves), 3rd place winner (Sophomore Ross Barnett), and 6th place winner (Sophomore Pacey McBride).
Rookies Brooke Ladner, Marion Scott and Dylan Traylor came in 7th, 8th and 10th place in Goat Tying.
Rookie Dylan Traylor brought home 6th place in Pole Bending.
Ross Barnett came in 2nd place in Steer Wrestling. Chase Graves came in 4th and Pacey McBride came in 5th in the same category.
PHS Rodeo team will travel to Brookhaven, Mississippi this coming weekend, September 30- October 1, for the Lazy J Rodeo.
