School Board Member Recognition Week

School Board Member Recognition Week

The five dedicated individuals serving on the Poplarville School Board deserve recognition for their commitment to the students of this community. They devote countless hours to attending board meetings and school events, addressing community concerns, enhancing their leadership skills, and much more.

Mississippi’s School Board Member Recognition Week, observed February 17-21, is a perfect opportunity to express our appreciation for the important role these board members play in shaping education for our students.

Serving as a school board member requires a deep passion for improving education. Without that commitment, the demands of the role could easily become overwhelming—attending meetings once or twice a month (or more), making difficult decisions on matters such as school closings, calendars, dress codes, and attendance boundaries, and fielding a constant stream of calls, texts, and emails from parents and community members. Despite these challenges, our board members remain dedicated to student success, ensuring that every decision keeps student achievement at the forefront.

Beyond their decision-making responsibilities, board members actively engage with the community, advocating for the school district, sharing both successes and challenges and encouraging public involvement in making our schools the best they can be. For these reasons and more, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to the Poplarville School District board members during School Board Member Recognition Week, February 17-21.

School board members in the Poplarville School District are:
Jill Smith, President
Marvin Houston, Vice President
