Marissa Lee is Nissan’s Teacher of the Week!

Marissa Lee, a fifth-grade reading and language arts teacher at Poplarville Upper Elementary has been named Nissan of Picayune’s Teacher of the Week. Lee has been teaching for the past 23 years, the last 20 of which have been at Poplarville Upper Elementary.

Her favorite part of teaching is that she has the opportunity to teach students new things. “Seeing a child ‘get it’ is the best feeling in the world,” Lee said. The most important thing she wants students to learn in her class is that each child is special. “I want students to know that they are loved and cared for and that they matter,” Lee said. For the previous ten years, she served as the school’s instructional coach. Now that she is back in a classroom setting, she has the opportunity to utilize that experience and expertise to be an even better teacher. One thing her students may not know about her is that she likes to create things.
“In my free time, I like to sew and make jewelry. Many of my Saturdays are spent selling at local craft shows and festivals,” Lee said. She is married to Darren, her husband for the past 19 years, and together they have three children, Ethan, Elise, and Eli.
