Athletic Update March 15-20th

Archery

Our PHS Archery team competed against D’Iberville coming up just a few points short on March 10th. Congratulations to our top shooters, Raymond Davis (284) and Sarah Bolin (280). We would also like to congratulate our team for defeating Union Baptist, Monday 3/15/21, and applaud top shooters Raymond Davis (276) and Maya Clark (270). We encourage you to support our PHS Archery team Tuesday, March 16, as they will have a home game competing against Picayune at 5 pm. Finally for this week, they will compete away from home against D’Iberville at 5pm.

Softball

Last Tuesday, March 9th our PHS softball team took home a win against Picayune with a final score of 11-1. They then played Picayune again here at home on Thursday, March 5th and achieved another victory with a final score of 5-1. This week the girls will be playing two more games at home. The first will take place on Tuesday, March 16th against Petal at 5:30pm and they will then go on to play Greene County on the 18th at 6:30pm. Good luck to our Hornet softball team!

Tennis

PHS Tennis Team competed in a match against Purvis last Tuesday at Tatum Park in Hattiesburg. The 2020 – 2021 tennis team has quite a few new young players in their first or second year of competition.  All players have shown improvement since the season started and have held their own in competitions against other players who are seniors and have 4 years experience as a starter.

Winners against Purvis were:

 #1 Girls Doubles Team Brianna Burt & Carli McCurdy won in 2 sets.  6-3   6-3.

#2  Girls Doubles Team Audrey Bolin & Avalina Spiers lost in a Tie Breaker. 6-4   2-6   6-10.

#1  Mixed Doubles Team Peyton Barber & Lane Ladner won in 2 sets.  6-0   6-0.

Baseball

This past week, PHS played three games with all their might. On the 8th, the Hornets fought hard against Biloxi and scored a loss 1-4. On the 12th, they also played against Stone and lost with a score of 3-7. Last Saturday on the 13th, PHS went against  Oak Grove and lost another game with the score 8-12. This week, PHS will be competing with FCAHS on the 16th and 19th. On the 16th, the game will start from 5/7. On the 19th, the game starts from 4:30/6. Good luck!

Rodeo 

The PHS rodeo members competed in Purvis on last Friday with the following results who placed in the top 10 categories:

Gavin Lee: First place in Bare Back riding, Third place in Steer Wrestling, Tenth place in Tie Down Roping

Wilson Gentry: Ninth place in Barrel Racing, Tenth place in Breakaway Roping, First place in Pole Bending

Laken Anderson: Fifth place in Goat Tying

Mason Theriot: Ninth place in Team Roping, Third place in Tie Down Roping

Congratulations to all of our PHS rodeo team! They will compete again at home in the Poplarville arena next to the Fair Ground in Poplarville on 3/19/21, competition starts at 7:00. Good luck!
