BASKETBALL 

Poplarville High School varsity basketball girls and boys played an away game at Stone on Jan. 7th. Unfortunately, both the girls and boys were not able to overcome Stone County. The girls played fell short with a score of 42-52. The boys’ game resulted in a final score of 42-64. On Jan. 10th, both girls and boys basketball teams played a home game against Purvis. due to their incredible teamwork, the girls came up with a victory of 61-54. The boys showed up with their fight-hard spirit but came up short with a score of 36-51. This week both girls and boys basketball team will play a non-conference away game at PRC on Jan. 14th. All girl games start at 5:00 pm; boys begin at 7:30 pm. Both teams will play an away game against Purvis on Jan. 17th.

SOCCER

Last week varsity soccer boys and girls teams traveled to Purvis on Tuesday the 7th. The girls won with a score of 4-1, and the boys won 5-0. On Thursday the 9th both teams played Laurel held at home. The girls won with a score of 3-6, the boys fought hard but came up short with a loss of 1-0. This week the boys and girls soccer teams will be playing away at FCAHS on Monday the 13th and home against Greene County on Thursday the 16th. The girls’ game will start at 5:30 and the boys will start at 7:00 PM.

RODEO

On 1/13/2020, the Poplarville High School Rodeo Team traveled to Brookhaven, MS and competed in the Lazy J III Rodeo. Listed below are the team members that placed in the top ten:

Bareback Riding: Hunter Norris finished first place with a score of 61.0 and ended with 10.00 points. Gavin Lee finished in second place with a score of 60.0 and ended with 9.00 points.

Barrel Racing: Brooke Ladner finished in second place with a time of 15.316 and earned 1.00 points

Bull Riding: Brennan Bonvillian finished in fourth place and Will Smith finished in sixth place.

Goat tying: Brooke Ladner came in 1st place with a time of 9.303 seconds and a total of 10 points. Katelyn Blackmon finished 7th with a time of 12.191 seconds and a total of 4 points.

Pole bending: Katelyn Blackmon finished in 21.638 seconds respectively and earned 7 points at 4th place. Victoria Ladner finished in 22.387 seconds and earned a total of 3 points at 8th place.

Steer wrestling: Gavin Lee placed second with a total of 9 points in 5.323 seconds.

 Bryce Graves participated in team roping and placed 2nd with 10 points and a time of 5.455 seconds.

Tie-down roping: Manson Theriot earned 3rd place with a total of 8 points and a time of 14.231 seconds.
