Mr. Merritt Selected by Home District for Hall of Fame

Friday, January 25, 2019,  the Valley Local School District in Lucasville, Ohio, inducted our superintendent, Carl Merritt, into the Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mr. Merritt lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track at Valley High. He was a three-year all-state pick in football, a three-year pick in baseball, and was tapped one year for all-state honors in basketball.

Mr. Merritt also ran track and held the school record in track 100-yard dash for 20 years at 9.9 seconds.

Mr. Merritt was heavily recruited by universities including Marshall University and signed with William Carey to play basketball/baseball on the strength of William Carey’s baseball program.

“I was blessed enough to receive a full athletic scholarship to pursue education.  I’m proud to still be a part of the athletic program at Carey,” stated Merritt.

Mr. Merritt’s brothers, Harold and Mark (both two-time all-state recipients in basketball),  were also inducted to the Valley Hall of Fame with Mr. Merritt for their sports success.  All three brothers signed with William Carey and are the only three brothers to sign with Carey and graduate.
