PHS Basketball Tournaments

Poplarville hosted the district basketball tournament last week. The Lady Hornets kicked off the tournament Tuesday, February 12th at 4:30 where they played Sumrall. Although the ladies worked hard, they fell short and lost. The girls are now out of the division tournament.

As for the boys basketball team, their trial in the tournament began also on Tuesday at 8:00 where they faced the Purvis Tornadoes. The boys came up with a 58-53 win, which advanced them on to play Thursday night in the tournament. Thursday, February 14th, the Hornets played the Lawrence County Cougars. In a hard fight, the teams were tied and went into overtime. Unfortunately, the boys ended up losing 46-37, but were still able to advance and play in the consolation game Friday night. Greene County came to face the Hornets in the consolation game. Once again, the boys lost 68-57. Although the boys were 1-2 for the tournament, they were seeded in 4th place and moved on to the division tournament. The boys faced Bay High on Tuesday, February 19th in a battle to go to Jackson, but ultimately the Tigers overcame the Hornets with a score of 58-46. The Hornets fought long and hard to get to where they are, and we congratulate both of the Poplarville basketball teams for a job well done.
