If it didn’t count and was just a preseason tune up game you sure couldn’t tell it. A large Hornet crowd was treated to a Jamboree that saw the lead change 3 times in the last 1 minute and 30 seconds of the game. The Hornet Defense came up big on Biloxi’s first possession as DJ Travis elevated and intercepted a pass in the endzone. Nick Kirschbaum opened up the scoring with a 36 yard field goal that gave the Hornets an early 3-0 lead. Biloxi intercepted a batted ball that resulted in a Touchdown for the Indians. The Hornet Offense would respond on the ensuing drive as Tyson Holston slipped into the endzone on a 16 yard Touchdown run to give Poplarville the lead 10-7. Biloxi would answer quickly as future Division 1 WR Tim Jones caught a tipped pass and raced into the endzone to make the score 14-10. The Hornet Offense then put together its last scoring drive of the contest as Junior RB Austin Bolton scored on a 10 yard TD run. The score stood at 17-14 with under two minutes left in the 2 quarter jamboree as things began to get interesting. After a 4 play drive that included a long run and two pass completions to Tim Jones, the Biloxi Indians seemed to have snatched the win from the Hornets as Biloxi scored with :23 seconds remaining on the clock. The extra point was good and Biloxi had the lead 21-17 as they lined up to kick the ball off. DJ Travis fielded the ball on the Hornets own 1 yard line and hit a seam that parted like the Red Sea. Luke Mitchell picked up the game winning block after eliminating the last eligible tackler. Travis streaked into the end zone and was soon accompanied by the whole bench. Mr. Will was so excited he broke his umbrella. If this Jamboree is any indication of the type of season we will have, Hornet fans better buckle up.
