Powerlifting Team, Turan Smith make History

The Hornet Powerlifting team sent 3 competitors to Jackson, MS on Saturday, April 16 for the MHSAA State Championships.  The Hornets brought home several accolades over the course of the Powerlifting season while competing in Regionals, South State and eventually State.  The results from State competition are:

Kobe Taylor – 5th Place

Chris Fowler – 6th Place

Turan Smith – 1st Place

Turan Smith, with the first place finish, becomes the first ever State Champion in powerlifting in school history.  Turan had a 3 lift total of 1,025 pounds.  He squatted 375, benched 185 and pulled an astounding 465 on dead lift for the win.  Turan has worked extremely hard to achieve this goal and we are proud of him.
