Offense Explodes in Sumrall

The hornets finished the night with 146 passing yards on 11 attempts and 413 rushing yards on 39 carries.  The 559 yard total is the highest offensive output the Hornets have put up this season.  Freshman Antonio Barnes was 8 for 11 with 146 yards and 1 TD pass to WR Eric Henry.  Henry was the top pass catcher with 3 catches for 66 yards.  There were many hornets that contributed to the ground game.  Austin Bolton was the big gainer on the evening, finishing the night with 94 yards on 11 carries and 3 touchdowns.  Jesse “J Train” Pernell had 8 carries for 54 yards.  Trey Griffen gave the offense an added spark rushing for 2 TDs on just 3 carries.  Zac Rice also chipped in a TD run of 25 yards.  Junior kicker Nicholas Kirschbaum was busy kicking extra points and he was perfect on the night going 8 for 8.  There wasn’t much scoring going on for the Bobcats, as the Hornet D allowed only 3 points and less than 200 yards.  Hunter Callahan led the Defense with 8 tackles a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.  Turan Smith also recovered a fumble and Trey Griffen intercepted a pass.  The Hornets prepare this week for a big Division 7-4A showdown at Hornet Field against the Purvis Tornados.  It is Senior Night!!  Come out and support our boys as they fight to take another step towards the coveted District Title.  It’s US vs them, OUR TOWN vs their town……………… It’s time!!!  Poplarville vs Purvis
