PUE Marshmallow Challenge

Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Mayfield challenged their fifth-grade students with a STEM activity called The Marshmallow Challenge. The challenge is that students must create the tallest freestanding structure out of spaghetti noodles, a yard of string, a yard of tape, and one marshmallow in 18 minutes. The tallest tower in Mrs. Mayfield’s class was 27” and the tallest tower in Mrs. Lee’s class was 18 ½.” The best part was the recap at the end of the challenge where the classes discussed that sometimes our original plans may not work out as we hoped, but in order to be successful, they may have to switch to plan B!
