A Homecoming to Remember

Madison Nodurft was crowned queen and the Hornets were crowned king of Homecoming 2014 taking a 56-7 decision over the Pass Christian Pirates Friday night at Hornet Field.

The Hornet defense needed a wakeup call early on surrendering a 65 yard touchdown run to the Pirates on the 3rd play of the game, but Pass Christian would not sniff the end zone for the remainder of the game.

The Hornet Defense had a season high 9 tackles for loss, created 2 turnovers and smothered a sinking Pirate offense for 4 quarters of play.  Tyler Fricke was once again the leading tackler with 4.  Blake Mata was the ball hawk Friday, collecting 2 turnovers while also causing one fumble.

Poplarville’s Special Teams were also solid.  Dalton Richardson blocked a punt and Jamerrick Waller scooped it up and raced into the endzone for a Hornet touchdown.  Nicholas Kirschbaum was perfect once again going 8 for 8 on extra points.

The Hornet Offense finished the night with 383 total yards.  Sophomore fullback Jesse Pernell was the bell cow on Homecoming, rushing for 137 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Malik Lucas rushed for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns in just a half of action.  Anthony Martin contributed 58 total yards to the Offensive explosion and had 1 rushing touchdown. Sye Blossman got into the endzone once and had 5 carries for 25 yards.  Tyler Fricke flattened Pirate defenders on his way to 50 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The stage has now been set for the game of the year.

The Hornets travel to Bay St. Louis to take on the St. Stanislaus Rockachaws.  The Rockachaws are undefeated and are the #1 ranked 4A team in the state. The winner of this contest will have a great chance to win the division 8-4A crown, a title the Rockachaws now hold. Travel to the coast Friday night, and get behind our Hornets as we continue to seek our first division championship since 1995.
