Pound Them Out

The Hornets gave Moss Point a steady dose of the Wing T amassing 333 yards on 48 carries and a relentless defensive effort to earn its first division victory of the season Friday night.  There was no slow start as the Hornet offense clicked on all cylinders during the first drive that was capped off with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Clay Garrett to Brandon McBride.  Garrett finished his night perfect through the air completing all 3 passes thrown for a total of 30 yards.  Malik Lucas was a welcomed sight after being sidelined against Heidelberg with an injury.  Lucas carried the ball 19 times for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns including an 80 yard touchdown jolt in the second half.  Jesse Pernell knocked on the door of 100 yards finishing the night with 92 yards on 17 carries.  Anthony Martin also chipped in with 40 yards on the ground.  The Hornet defense didn’t give up very much and collected 4 turnovers on the night.  Jamerrick Waller had 2 fumble recoveries and caused another.  Dalton Richardson had a fumble recovery and Keith Dotson collected the lone interception of the night.  Tyler Fricke led the Hornet defense in tackles with 8 and Camden Ray was the second leading tackler with 6.  This week the Hornets will entertain the Pass Christian Pirates for homecoming with hopes of becoming 2-0 in district play.  Come out and support your team and don’t forget GREEN out the stands!!
