It wasn’t easy, but the Hornets found a way to overcome a bevy of turnovers and a questionable spot in the 4th quarter to escape Heidelberg with a 21-14 non-division win Friday, September 19th.
The Hornets were down a few men after last week’s exciting 43-42 victory over Stone County and needed some new faces to really step up. Keith Dotson filled in quite nicely rushing for 134 yards on 21 carries and scoring the game winning touchdown with 48 seconds remaining in the game. Jesse Pernell also contributed to the victory with a tough 18 carries for 127 yards. The offense was given plenty of opportunities by a defense that was pretty much lights out after the 1st quarter. The Hornets overcame some obstacles and found a way to enter the bye week at a solid 4-1 record.
The real road begins next week as the Hornets travel to Moss Point for our first Division contest. Ride to Jackson County next Friday and let’s get behind our team.
