MSP Beta Club Supports FUM Backpack Buddies

As a service-learning project, MSP BETA Club students collected items for Poplarville Backpack Buddies. Backpack Buddies is housed at First United Methodist Church of Poplarville where volunteers meet each week to stock bags with non-perishable food items for local needy school children to eat during weekends and holidays. The bags are then hand-delivered to schools in the Poplarville School District. 
MSP believes that student effort and achievement should be encouraged and rewarded, and seeks to cultivate the ideals of service and leadership in our citizens of tomorrow. Students with an 87 or above in ALL subjects and who exhibit a commendable attitude and attendance are invited to be a part of MSP's BETA Club.

MSP Coffee Talk with the Principal

MSP's Coffee Talk with the Principal is Tuesday, February 20, at 7:30 a.m.  
Come join us and share your ideas in a round table discussion. We will be discussing information regarding upcoming events and welcome your input.

MSP Bumble-Grams

The bees came in for the Valentine Bumble-Grams!!!
Last day to place your order is tomorrow, Monday Feb. 13th. Bumble-Grams will be delivered on Tuesday for Valentine's Day.
Place $4 and a note of encouragement in an envelope and send to school tomorrow with student's name and Advisory teacher's name on the outside.

MSP Student Competes in Pearl River County Spelling Bee

Tyler K. is an 8th grade student at MSP.  He placed 1st in the MSP Spelling Bee and represented his school at the Pearl River County Spelling Bee on January 25th.


There were seven participants in the Pearl River County Spelling Bee.  Tyler placed 3rd and received a plaque.  


Way to go Tyler.  Congratulations!!




MSP Parent/Teacher Conference Night

Send a Bumble-Gram to a MSP Student for Valentine's Day

Do you want to send your friends a special treat and message on Valentine's Day?
Do you want to send your child a special treat and message on Valentine's Day?
The PTO is giving students and parents the opportunity to send Bumble-Grams on Valentine's Day?
Bumble-Grams are $4 and money is due on Friday, Feb. 10th. Students have forms and extra copies can be picked up in the front office.

MSP Cheer Tryouts

The Middle School of Poplarville Cheerleader Try-out Clinic will be held on March 9th (3:30-5:30) and the 10th (3:30-4:30)  at the Middle School.  Try-outs will be on Saturday, March 11th at 9 a.m. at the MSP gym.  
The Sign-up sheet will be placed in the MSP office on Feb. 16th.  A mandatory parent meeting, for any girl that is trying out, will be held on March 2nd at 6:00 p.m to discuss the information for tryouts.  Please contact Nikki Smith for more information.
**REMINDER** To be able to try-out, no more than 8 unexcused absences is allowed.

Martin Luther King Holiday

Poplarville School District will be closed Monday, January 16th, to observe the Martin Luther King holiday.

MSP Partners with the Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition

Mrs. Shakeizia Jones, from the American Lung Association, is the Director of the Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition in Pearl River County. The Health class at the Middle School invited her to come and speak to the students about the harmful effects of tobacco use. 
Students learned about the harmful effects of smoking and second hand smoke and what harmful ingredients make a cigarette. The students were also able to see hands-on displays of what smoking can do to your lungs and mouth.
The classes had a great time learning and really enjoyed the information that was shared by Mrs. Jones.

MSP 8th Graders Explore Career Opportunities

8th grade students at the Middle School of Poplarville attended an interactive career expo at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum Convention Center called Pathways2Possibilities. 
The career expo provided an opportunity for experts in several fields to demonstrate their duties and responsibilities through many hands on exhibits.   These real life, hands on experiences helped students realize that the next four years of their lives are critical in determining their future career choices. 

MSP Students Pie Their Teachers

Students who miss too much school suffer academically at every age and every grade. The Middle School of Poplarville offers incentives throughout the year to promote "Every Student, Every Day!"
On December 13, 2016, MSP students gathered in the gym to particpate in a school wide event to promote attendance. The students with 96% or above attendance had the chance to pie their favorite teacher or principal while their classmates cheered them on.

2016 Spelling Bee

The 2016 MSP Spelling Bee was a huge success!!
Sixty-nine students from 6th, 7th, and 8th participated. The winners were presented with a certificate and a gift card from Sonic. A special thank you to Russell Miller for the gift card donations and John Allred for being the pronouncer.
Winning first place was Tyler Knight, second place went to Sydney Nestle, and third place went to Alex Lewis.  
Tyler will move on to compete in the county competition against the PRC winner. We wish him good luck. That date will be announced.  
A big thank you to all the other participants.


MSP Student Wins Chrome Book for Perfect Attendance

Poplarville School District held an Attendance Initiative contest for students for the months of October and November. All students with perfect attendance had their name placed in a drawing to win a Chrome book.
The Middle School of Poplarville winner was Gavin Lee and was presented with a new Chromebook from the principal, Heidi Dilolon.

Heart of a Hornet Christmas Drive

Heart of a Hornet Christmas Drive was a community coordinated project to collect toys for students throughout Pearl River County.
The Student Council organized the Toy Drive at the Middle School of Poplarville. Students and teachers generously supported the project. An abundance of toys were collected to help make Christmas merry for children in our community.

MSP Annual Christmas Program

On Tuesday night, the MSP band and choir presented the annual Christmas program at PRCC Brownstone.  


The program kicked off the holiday season by presenting a variety of holiday selections.









2016-2017 MSP Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Ms. Brooke Murray, who was selected as Teacher of the Year for Middle School for Poplarville. She was selected by her colleagues for this award.

Ms. Murray attended USM where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary English. She has been teaching English Language Arts for the past six years at MSP. She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.
